Tile UI Elements

Due to its size and inherent geometry, Tiles are able to present much more information than standard buttons and more suitable for use with touch-enabled Windows devices.

Live Tiles

Live Tiles

Our Tile Control can display both static and be static elements, they can also be turned into live tiles. Live tiles change their content in an infinite loop with an optional animation effect that follows a content change. The following animation illustrates a customized Tile Control.

Tile Groups

Tile Groups

Tiles are related to their parent groups by the TileItem.Group property values. So, to add a tile item to the desired group, assign the required group to this property. At design-time you can simply drag a tile to the desired location. Tile groups can display captions, assigned to their TileGroup.Text properties (see the figure below). By default, these captions are not displayed. If you wish to show these text blocks, set the TileControl.ShowGroupText property to true or check the related check-box within the control's smart-tag. The TileControl.AppearanceGroupText property provides access to the appearance settings, applied to tile group captions.

Tile Elements

Tile Elements

Tile Elements
Tile items are able to display multiple text labels and images. Additionally, you can provide a background image or customize a background color(s). Text can be formatted using HTML tags. In addition, tiles support animation. Combined together, all these features create unmatched capabilities for customizing your tiles.

Tile Sizes

Four distinct Tile sizes.

Tile Sizes

Our WinForms Tile Control supports four Tile sizes: Small, Medium, Wide and Large. You can quickly add Tiles at design time via the Tile Group's smart tag.

Animations & Transitions

Animations & Transitions

Tile item support animation. Using this feature you can turn your static tile items to live tiles that display as much information as needed (see the figure below). You can modify the animation speed and visual effects, prevent specific tile content blocks from being animated, pause and resume the animation as required. This article describes this feature in greater detail. Animation effects include the following: ScrollTop (default animation effect), ScrollDown, ScrollLeft, ScrollRight, Fade, SegmentedFade, and RandomSegmentedFade.

Tile Templates

Tile Templates

Tile Templates
The Tile Template Gallery is a set of predefined tile templates, which allow you to instantly get a desired tile layout. Instead of creating elements and manually arranging them across the tile, choose a tile template and apply it. The Gallery contains ready-to-use templates for both static and animated tile types.
"The response from DevExpress is always prompt, detailed and typically includes a code sample. Have used their suite for 4 years and never regretted my choice for one second." Jim Thomas

Tile Layout & Customization

Orientation & Layout

Orientation & Layout

Orientation & Layout
Depending on the control's TileControl.Orientation property, both groups and items within them are arranged differently. Horizontal orientation. Appropriate for tiles of mixed sizes. Groups are arranged side-by-side in a single row. Vertical Orientation mode is generally used when Tiles are of the same size. Otherwise, you may observe gaps between tiles due to the item arrangement algorithm. Groups are arranged one below the other in a single column.

Adaptive Layout

Adaptive Layout

Unlike a standard layout, Adaptive Layout, the Tile Control tends to fit as many tiles in the its client area as it is possible without exceeding the minimal tile size.

Alignment & Anchors

Alignment & Anchors

There are various settings allowing you to arrange text titles and images within a tile by selecting one of ten predefined locations (TopRight, MiddleCenter, BottomLeft, etc.).

Anchoring allows you to align one tile element as required and then set other element positions relative to this first tile element.

HTML Text Formatting

HTML Text Formatting

HTML Text Formatting
If the TileItem.AllowHtmlText property equals DefaultBoolean.True, you can use HTML tags to format element text strings for this tile. The code snippet and the figure below illustrate an example. See the HTML Text Formatting topic for a list of supported HTML tags.

Background Image & Colors

Background Image & Colors

Background Image & Colors
You can either colorize tile background colors, or assign a specific background image for your tiles. In case both are set, the background image will overlap the background color. Background image is an image assigned to the TileItem.BackgroundImage property. When a tile has a background image, its borders are not shown.

Testing Support

The DevExpress Universal Subscription includes built-in support for Microsoft's CodedUI. Unlike many vendors claiming support for Coded UI through the simple use of MSAA, DevExpress controls go the extra mile to make certain that individual controls fully comply with Microsoft's testing framework. We don't simply support Coded UI; we support it to the maximum extent possible. Note: CodedUI support requires purchase of the DevExpress Universal Subscription. Learn more about Coded UI
